Tribute

Ralph Olen Wicks, 88, a resident of Chattanooga passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Memorial Hospital.  Ralph was born in Alabama on April 6, 1933.  He was a graduate of Pisgah High School and it was there he became quite an accomplished basketball player.  He served in the United States Army and he worked at Dixie Yarns for forty-six years.  He was a member of the Living Church of God and enjoyed being with his church family.  In the late 1970s and into the early 1980s, he was the basketball coach for the local Youth Opportunities United and led his teams to local and regional tournament wins.  He always stressed skill development, discipline and most importantly good sportsmanship. He had great love for his family, friends and neighbors.  He will be remembered as a man of faith based principles and compassion for others.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife (of 68 years) Inez; parents Lewis and Ida Wicks; sisters Jewel Bouldin, Juanita Wilks, Darlene Givens; brother J.T. Wicks.

Survivors include daughter Sheila (Steve) Harrison, son Terry (Debbie) Wicks, and daughter, Kim Wicks; grandchildren, Mandy Wicks, Mechella (Royce) Smith, Megan Wicks, Ethan Harrison and Shawna (Benny) Brewster; multiple great grandchildren; and brother Clinton Wicks.
